Inadequate Follow-up

Sometimes, a physician orders tests but does not receive the results for review. There may be instances where patients do not follow through with the tests as directed by their physician. At other times, the results are filed away before the physician reviews them, and briefs the patient about the findings. A system should therefore be in place to track the status of the orders made by the physicians so that they are neither overlooked nor forgotten. Referrals to specialists should also be well documented. This goes a long way in preventing medicolegal issues and is good for patient care too.
